Well, it was busy.......
SATURDAY MORNING - met 3 other tri ladies for a ride. Was cold but fine when we started, but that soon turned to rain and damn freezing as we were on our way up a 35min gradual climb. By the time we reached the top I was numb from the waist down, my toes were froze, and I wished I was at home. We decided to take shelter at the shcool at the top of the road, which wasn't without incident I might add! I tried oh so smartly to ride through the narrow gate into the school. Unfortunately the turn on the path was too tight so I tried to go up a small ledge - I hit it kind of sideways rather than front on, and next thing I know I was smack on the ground. Boy that was the last straw. I was already over the ride half way up the hill, and that just topped it off nicely. Laying on the ground, bike on top of me, in the rain, in front of 3 other people - Niiiiice, not humiliating at all......
Needless to say the ride back down the hill was bone chilling. The rain had stopped while we were hiding out, but the wind chill was horrible. Normally I get in the aero bars and nail it down this particular hill because it's not really steep, but it is FAST. Not today though, it was too damn cold creating all that extra wind! It was time to head home, this was so not fun anymore. I did manage 50kms in total so it wasn't all lost, but I was sooooo cold by the time I finished that The Saint had to take my shoes off as I couldn't bend down when I got off my bike. I struggled to put my feet on the ground they were in so much pain, and I was FROZEN. I didn't get in the shower as that would have just burnt me, and 2hrs later I think I finally felt warm again. I have never been so cold on a bike in all my life, and I sure hope it never happens again - it just ain't pleasant at all.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON - We had friends coming around for dinner to watch the All Blacks play South Africa, so I spent the afternoon in my nice warm kitchen cooking. The sun was coming in, the oven was on, and it helped defrost me some more. Our friends 18mth old son kept us entertained and we won the rugby, so it was a lovely evening.
SUNDAY MORNING - I was supposed to ride and run, but it was very cold again, and after the day before I could not bring myself to get out there. So, I ditched the ride and just ran. I was as stiff as a board, and it was the longest 55min run I've ever had. It felt like 2hrs. I think I was dehydrated as I hardly drank anything the day prior due to being so damn cold I suppose, plus I never stretched after the ride either - so, it wasn't pretty but it was done.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON - I went to a seminar on stretching and self massage that was organised by the Tri Club. It was fantastic. I have learnt some new stretch techniques which seem to be helping sore bits already, plus how to use massage wax, sticks and tennis balls to self massage - great stuff and all very handy when you are trying to save money and there is none left over for luxury things like massages.
MONDAY MORNING - RPM class at the gym. Due to skipping my ride on Sunday I decided to hammer this and had a great time sweating it out in a warm air conditioned gym on probably the most frostiest coldest morning I have ever experienced!
MONDAY NIGHT - The Saint and I went to a seminar being held by his gym about how to manage life basically - it was run by a Life Coach (new fandangled occupation in this super goal orientated and personal development age we live in), and I found it really great. Lots of "light bulb moments" as he called them, and I now have a template to fill in that might help me identify some areas I need to work on (as if I didn't know those already), plus planning to help me actually achieve them. All good positive stuff. Another embarrassing incident for me though when I dropped my empty wine glass and it smashed everywhere, right in the middle of his seminar - oh well, thats what I get for thinking I can drink a glass of wine! Back to my Powerade me thinks!!!
So, another busy few days just been, and another pile to come. But, life would be boring if we had nothing to do now wouldn't it...

WOW! that's a full weekend. You are so much stronger than I getting out there and cycling in that nasty weather.
I can't wait for global warming!!! Can't remember frosts like this since I was little - and had great fun breaking the ice in the puddles!
I've got over the sheer panic involved in two HIM in a month, and am looking forward to the training!
Cheers,
Juls
Just reading about your ride gives me the chills. You're one tough woman for sticking it out!
At least the wine glass was empty! I hate to waste good vino on an accident :-)
Hope the positive developments continue in the right direction for you!
I would have ditched the ride and just ran the second day too. Great weekend!
I loathe being cold on the bike! Way to tough it out. Massage? Life coaching? Your gyms/tri clubs sound awesome! (I had a great experience being a guinea pig for a life coach who was in training. It really helped me get myself on track and finish my degree.) And finally, I'll have to post a picture on my blog of me and my girl in our All Blacks jerseys! (John has All Blacks boxers - but I won't post a pic of that! :D)
Man, I don't know how you made it through that bike ride- I would have sissy'd out and just rode my trainer - you're one tough lady!
