Super Saturday!!!!

What a massive weekend of olympic watching. Here are the highlights for me:

* The flagbearer at the opening ceremony, Mahe Drysdale, rowing til he puked (literally) to take the bronze medal and make the whole of NZ proud (we are weird that way)

* The double skulling twins photo finish for gold was heart poundingly fantastic!

* Hayden Rolleston in the mens pursuit on the track - beautiful! Love the silver fern on the back of the suit and the top of the helmet - looks awesome!

* Michael Phelps - what can you say. I held my breath for the photo finish of the butterfly and yelled at the US team to swim like crap in the medley relay! What an absolutely astounding feat by an amazing athlete. I even cried during Star Spangled Banner!!!!

* Valerie Vili smacked that shot put around like it was a golf ball! she is NZ's new darling of womans sport!

* That Tansania fella who stole the gold from Australian Grant Hackett - the guy is a drugs cheat and only just got back into competition after his 18mth ban lifted - that's just CRAP! Hackett should have that gold (and it isn't very often we Kiwis stick up for the Australians, so this is serious!)

And so much more to come..... womans pursuit for bronze tonight, mens teams pursuit as well.

And of course, the triathlon tomorrow and Tuesday. It's on while I am at work, so the trick will be to see if I can get to watching my recorded event before finding out the result. I am keeping fingers crossed that Emma Snowsill wins, Vanessa Fernandes a close second, and of course a Kiwi in 3rd - any one of them will do, but my pick is that Sam Warriner is going to have the race of her life!

The mens triathlon, well that is tough. Gomez is obvious favourite, but I reckon Unger is going to give it to him. He's beaten him before (twice), so why the hell not do it at the Olympics. Our own Docherty will be bridesmaid again!!!! Bummer, but I just don't think he will do it. Sorry, I know that's not very patriotic of me, but I think there are too many good men, and he just isn't up there - not so great at finishing when the pedal goes to the floor.

Ooooooh, so much anticipation! I have a headache.... I have never loved watching sport so much! Hopefully I can get into bed before midnight tonight, as training is suffering severely (oh yeah, I have actually managed to do some of that too).

Happy Olympic Watching......

I have so loved watching the Olympics! I'm totally with you on the silver fern on the back of your boy's jersey (kit? whatever) for the track bike pursuit. You should so have one of those tops. :D

And what about Constantina of Romania winning the marathon?!?! When she pulled ahead, I thought "no way, that's too fast too soon. she can't hold that pace!"

I was SO happy for her. After winning, she just kept running around the track!

O Sailor, Come Ashore

(Part I)

O sailor, come ashore

What have you brought for me?

Red coral , white coral,

Coral from the sea.

(Part II)

I did not dig it from the ground ,

Nor pluck it from a tree;

Feeble insects made it

In the stormy sea.
