Yesterday I did what every good Mum should do on Fathers Day - left The Saint with the kids (and MY mother), jumped into a car with some girlfriends, and went to an event!!! woops... not good planning.
Anyhoo, it wasn't all bad as my Mum was visiting from out of town, so she took the kids out for breakfast while The Saint went out for a bike ride, so he was ok. No flashy breakfast or anything but who needs that anyway! We did take afternoon tea of chocolate cake and quiche around to MY Dad's later in the afternoon, so that will have to do.
The race was GREAT. It was race #2 of the Xterra Off Road Run series. This time it was 16kms in a different part of the forest at Rotorua. For the most part it was fairly tame compared to last time. There was one mean hill in the middle, but apart from that it was nicely up and down dale. I ran for a good part of the race with a 13yr old boy. He was great and we chatted about this and that. It is really cool to see a boy of that age out doing this stuff instead of playing computer games etc... I only hope my kids head in that direction!
We did get lost towards the end as we got to a 3 path intersection and there were no markers telling us which one to take. Turns out some little butthead had removed it! What idiots! So, we took the wrong track.... ended up running abit further than necessary, but oh well. I was only bummed because I was aiming for under 2hrs and we did 2hrs 1min!!!! Pooh....
It was a great day out, the weather was awesome, and 2 of the 3 of us won a spot prize. Stop for coffee at a cafe before heading home to do some Fathers Day celebrating. Unfortunately by the time I got home I was feeling absolutely knackerd, sick from lack of decent food after the race, and had a whopping headache. The Saint had to cook the kids tea - so much for Fathers Day...
The Saint is exactly that - The Saint. He has always been an awesome Dad, right from the time we brought our 2 wee bundles of joy home from the hospital. Having twins is pretty hard work when they are babies, but he was right in there - mixing bottles, changing nappies, midnight feeding one while I fed the other. I have always just been able to leave the kids with him without having to leave a list of instructions, as he always just knew what to do. He gets pissed off when people tell him he has to "babysit" - he calls it "looking after my kids"..... He is now the Cub Scout leader even though he really doesn't want to be, just because his boys love going and they desperately needed someone to keep the pack going. So, Happy Fathers Day Paul - sorry you only got undies and chocolates!!!!!! You deserved way more...... love from us...
