What have I been doing?

Well, you might well ask - not blogging much it would seem, but there just aren't enough hours in the day at the moment.

* I went to my first MTB event this weekend. The Saint's work was the major naming rights sponsor, so we went to.... well.... work!!!! The race was a 6hr or a 12hr team or solo event around an 8km track. There was 2500+ people all in a mini tent city, 500 of which were whizzing around in the forest at any given moment in time. The 12hr solo dudes are just NUTS as far as I'm concerned, but the team thing would be a go for me next year I think. It was tempting to jump in for a lap, but given my NIL MTB experience, and the amount of people I would have to get out of the way of while I negotiated a MTB, I decided to do some practise over the next year and give it a crack next time. Seriously a great event though. It was just buzzing with excitement - I have to say they are a different breed to the triathletes I normally hang out with!!!!

* Training has been very up and down. I seemed to be really fatigued after my off road run event, and last weeks training just felt blah. I did manage a pretty decent ride yesterday, but then I ended up with a sawing pain in my throat last night which kept me up for hours! This morning I am abit better, so will miss my swim this evening and attempt a run instead.

* I had a running drills session with the coach and the rest of his clients last week. That was fun, although you do feel like a dork at the beach doing skippy, hoppy, jumpy, lungey things out in public! I have been doing drills for a few weeks now, and I do think they are actually making my running better. Only time will tell I guess as summer rolls around soon and the events begin.

* My swim coaching sessions have been going well, a little light on people some weeks, but at least there is some interest. I am hoping to get some more permant week day ones up and running soon, so keep an eye on Fit Goals if you live locally and want to hook into them.

* I am doing my very first Duathlon on the weekend. I am nervous as hell as I am a slow runner, and I will be left behind from the gun! Normally in a triathlon I get out of the water about 1/3 of the way down the pack and then everyone passes me on the bike, and I manage to stay ahead of a few people on the run. This weekend I will be spat out the back from the get go, and will be trying my hardest not to get my first ever DEAD LAST FINISH - but then, there is still nothing wrong with that is there? The point of this year was to do some different things, and that included a Duathlon. The Coach made me laugh when he said to get in a bunch on the ride as it is a draft legal cycle leg - haha, I'll be lucky if there are any bikes left for me to draft off!!! Very sweet thought though.

That's about it from me I think - I'm thinking of all my bloggy buddies who are getting hammered by Ike and other storms in the US - hope you are all keeping safe.

Sounds as though you're working hard and having fun, that's the main thing. Make sure you rest if you feel yourself getting sick (aka don't follow my example).
I am POUTING that you're not coming to Melb while you're in Oz. Maybe we can book you in for the Melb mara 09.
BTW your photo on the coaching website - awesome!

You are busy, busy. Good luck with the duathlon. I'd be last from the start, too. The reason I like triathlons is the swim! But then I just get passed for the next two legs. Maybe some day I'll be able to maintain my swim position, maybe not. Take care.

You manage to get so much done! Have fun at the du. They scare me so I'll be interested to hear what you think.
